Strangers' Dining Room
The Strangers' Dining Room is one of the most elegant and distinctive event venues available for hire within the House of Commons. Located on the Principal Floor of the Palace of Westminster, this beautifully restored room provides an exceptional setting for receptions, networking events, drinks gatherings, private dining and corporate hospitality.
Often used as the reception space for events held in the Members' Dining Room, the Strangers' Dining Room is equally impressive as a standalone venue. Its intimate scale, rich architectural character and prestigious parliamentary setting create a memorable backdrop for both business and social occasions.
Originally constructed as a committee room for Members of the House of Lords, the space was converted into a dining room in the nineteenth century and later became known as the Strangers' Dining Room. During parliamentary sittings, Members continue to entertain guests here, maintaining a long tradition of hospitality at the heart of the Palace of Westminster.
Following a major restoration project completed in 2015, the room once again showcases many of its original decorative features. Intricate wood carvings, striking red flock wallpaper inspired by the designs of Augustus Pugin and a faithfully recreated historic ceiling combine to create one of Parliament's most visually impressive interiors.
Whether hosting a reception before dinner, a standalone drinks event or an exclusive private gathering, the Strangers' Dining Room offers a unique opportunity to entertain guests within one of London's most iconic and historic buildings.
