Meet Sam; Senior Commercial Manager

What attracted me to working at UK Parliament was the opportunity to contribute to an iconic heritage estate while continuing to develop my procurement expertise. Having spent several years working on a range of major infrastructure projects as a Quantity Surveyor, the opportunity to join the Parliamentary Commercial Directorate felt like the ideal next step in my career within the Works category.
Prior to joining UK Parliament, I worked for a number of main contractors across a diverse portfolio of projects, including Gatwick Airport. This experience has provided me with a strong commercial foundation and a practical understanding of the challenges faced by delivery teams. It enables me to offer pragmatic commercial, procurement and contract management advice that supports successful project outcomes.
Like many roles within UK Parliament, my position as Senior Commercial Manager is highly varied. A typical day involves leading procurement exercises, advising project teams on procurement strategy and contract management, and providing subject matter expertise across a range of commercial matters. One of the aspects I enjoy most is collaborating with colleagues across Strategic Estates and contributing to the maintenance, improvement and future-proofing of the Parliamentary Estate.
Since joining UK Parliament, I have continued to develop my professional knowledge, including achieving NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation. This has strengthened my understanding of collaborative contract management and enhanced my ability to support the successful delivery of complex works projects. Through the procurements I have led, I have also secured more than £1.5 million in contract value savings, helping to maximise value for money while maintaining a focus on quality and successful project outcomes.
Working at UK Parliament has provided me with opportunities to broaden my commercial expertise, contribute to high-profile programmes and play a part in preserving one of the United Kingdom's most iconic estates for future generations.
