Strategic Estates
The Strategic Estates Team manages the parliamentary estate. Our work encompasses a broad set of responsibilities, including the delivery of construction projects, the provision of specialist planning and design support, and the care and development of our internationally significant heritage collections, amongst others.
Significant projects include refurbishing one of the largest MP office blocks and restoring stonework across the Palace. There are dozens of other projects to keep the estate safe and running for the 3000 or more people on site each day, and to support the continued business of Parliament.
Teams in Strategic Estates
- Project Delivery - We help secure Parliament’s future and supports the business of the House by delivering construction projects to a common set of standards and processes. We also manages suppliers that operate at project level.
- Heritage Collections - Parliament’s heritage collections are home to more than 26,000 objects that help us to understand the history of Parliament and tell its many stories. We manage three distinct collections - the Parliamentary art collection, historic furniture and decorative arts collection, and the architectural fabric collection.
- Portfolio Management Office - We manage the pipeline of estates projects and programmes across both Houses. We support effective delivery through portfolio coordination, scheduling, risk and dependency management, and clear reporting. By streamlining processes and sharing best practice, we help the portfolio run smoothly and enable others to do their best work.
- Property and Asset Strategy - We lead the strategic development of an integrated property and asset management approach for the estate. We manage the lifecycle of the buildings, day-to-day corporate property management, and provide advice to the Project Delivery and Maintenance groups.
- Restoration and Renewal (R & R) Integration - We work with the R&R Delivery Authority and R&R Client team to ensure the work and priorities of Strategic Estates are factored into the R&R options currently being developed. We support the R&R teams in understanding the nuances of delivering a complex programme in Parliament, and lead on sharing information between the Delivery Authority and Parliament and own the Integrated Schedule of all works being undertaken in the Palace. /
